Investment in the development of new products and advanced technologies is an essential part of MEWA's business philosophy. The textile service provider continuously optimises its resource-saving process technologies, making it the industry leader. This also applies to the development of textiles such as workwear and protective clothing. To achieve this, MEWA works closely with experts in research, education and practice.
Mechelen, May 2022 - At MEWA, the focus in the development of textiles such as workwear and business textiles is always on quality and sustainability, because working sustainably is the best way to save resources. Only high-quality materials are used, which meet the requirements of the working environment and the high demands of industrial washing. In the in-house development department for workwear and protective clothing, new collections are designed and existing clothing is further developed in cooperation with fabric manufacturers and research institutes. The resilience and durability of the workwear are tested during intensive testing procedures in the in-house technical centre and in certified institutes. The result: improved and durable fabrics with new, additional protective functions, such as antistatic, welding or chemical protection.

Before the launch of a new workwear collection, the fabric is first tested at MEWA's technical centre in the
German Wiesbaden.
Testing involves washing the fabric at least 30 times, treating it and then testing it for things like tear resistance, colour fastness and abrasion.
“The customer can rest assured that all necessary safety standards are met and optimally tailored to the care processes. Our way of working meets the specifications of internationally applicable ISO standards,” explains Danny Vermeir, technical director MEWA Servibel.

When choosing workwear, sustainability is increasingly a decisive factor for companies and businesses. This is why certified textile service providers offer an eco-friendly and resource-saving rental service for business equipment. MEWA goes one step further and has recently developed its first collection from recycled materials. Peak is workwear with excellent functional properties and has the look of a fashionable outdoor outfit. The polyester yarns used for it are made exclusively from recycled PET water bottles. These are combined with organic cotton. In total, around 75 per cent sustainable and resource-saving materials are used to manufacture MEWA PEAK.
The quality of recycled materials poses a major challenge in providing sustainable textile services. The main issue is strength, which is crucial for workwear. “In recent years, the quality of recycled polyester has improved significantly and the willingness to invest in the recycling sector has generally increased - including in our network,” Danny Vermeir continued.
